Bombay silver three piece tea service.
A very fine Bombay silver three piece tea service comprising tea pot, two handled sugar and cream jug. Each piece is decorated with an embossed and repousse decorated band of wild animals and hunters within landscapes, the tea pot has a handle designed as an elephants head with trunk forming the handle, it has two small ivory insulators, the hinged lid has a similar band and elephant finial, the spout is also an elephant head and trunk. The rim is cast scrollls and leafage and it is raised on four bun feet, the base is marked T.P.R & CO Bombay , Silver. Both the sugar and cream also have the elephant head handles although they are smaller, each piece is similarly marked. The set weighs approximately 46ozs. It dates from the 1930's.
Tea pot 29cm wide, sugar 20.5cm wide, cream jug 16cm wide.
Maharani Narinder Kaur, née Alice Villiers (1904-1984), third wife of Maharajah Paramjit Singh of Kapurthala (1892-1955).
The set is in good order and has no serious wear and is worn commensurate with a set of its age.
